Verdun is a World War I themed map created by Scrufus. It is based off of the infamous Battle of Verdun, one of the longest battles of World War I, or the Great War.

Appearance[]

Verdun is a large field with various trenches that resembles "No Man's Land", a vacant area of land between two trench systems. The field is littered with tree trunks, shell holes, bunkers and barbed wire. Sandbags and field artillery guns lay dormant on the ground. The trenches are also littered, having wooden boards and bed mattresses. A fortress, most likely Fort Vaux[1], serves as the exit. It hosts 3 French soldiers, garrisoning the fort. The 3 soldiers (of undetermined rank) sit dormant, waiting to defend the fort (they do nothing as they are a part of the map’s design).

Tactics[]

  • Most of the ground can be used as cliff space aside from hills and obstacles such as the shell holes.
  • Due to the limited space for ground placement, it is recommended to be more conservative. For example, if a player is farming, it may be better to put Farms near the end of the map to save space.
    • However, the section of trench leaving the center section of the map is great for storing spawner towers and Farms, as they can be placed within the thin area between the path border and walls to save center space. It is also a perfect range for DJs and other support towers to still boost revenue and efficiency.
  • Cliff towers could be very dominant on this map as most of it is cliff space.
  • Due to the high amount of cliff space on this map and the limited amount of ground space, some strategies, especially those which rely extensively on ground towers, will be ineffective.

Trivia[]

  • There is a statue depicting a French & German soldier facing off with their rifles lowered. On the stone plate, details about the Battle of Verdun are inscribed.
